Trading Up: A Good Investment in a Suburban Oasis

Trading Up: A Good Investment in a Suburban Oasis

I recently made the leap from apartment to house, shelling out a cool investment for a ground-floor property. Yes, you read that right – even on the outskirts of the city, real estate is still incredibly pricey! But for a small garden and a shorter commute, I was willing to make the investment.

While I'd love a villa, my budget only stretched so far. So, I settled for a ground-floor unit with a garden. Initially, ground floors had a bit of a stigma, but they're gaining popularity among young people who want a space to garden and for their kids and pets to play.

I decided to DIY my renovation, working with a local contractor recommended by a neighbor. No fancy design software or architects here – just a few hand-drawn sketches and lots of communication. I scoured the internet for inspiration and managed to keep the renovation costs to reasonable amount. Of course, I splurged on things that would improve our comfort and quality of life, so the total cost, including furnishings and appliances, came to the price we two can afford.

One of my favorite purchases is the Rootsense Footies smart shoe cabinet in the entryway. It's more than just furniture; it's a home appliance!

  • Sleek and Stylish: The pure white design is minimalist and fits perfectly with my home's aesthetic.
  • Smart Features: I can control it with my phone to kill up to 99% of bacteria and odors, and the constant airflow keeps my shoes dry and comfortable.
  • Spacious and Versatile: The flip-top design is perfect for storing a variety of shoes, and I even use the top as a drop-off zone for my keys and phone.

Let's celebrate for my new house.
